Arewa-Grassroots Farmers Alliance  of Nigeria  Urges Federal Government to Prioritize Local Grains Production Over imported  ones

Local farmers have called on the  Federal Government, to always prioritize the patronage of domestically produced grains over imported ones.

The National Chairman of the Arewa-Grassroots Farmers Alliance  of Nigeria , Comrade Dauda Musa Namadi, who made the assertion during a  call to action meeting organized by the Famers Alliance in Makarfi local government area of Kaduna state, said by promoting local production, the government can help to ensure a steady supply of food for the population, reducing reliance on imported goods.

Mr Dauda Musa said the local farmers believe that this support would not only boost local production but also stimulate economic growth and development within the country.

" Government should prioritize purchasing locally produced goods from domestic farmers, this support would enable the government to offer subsidies and sell the produce to the public and other companies at discounted prices, but  If the government cannot support local farmers by purchasing their produce, it should at least stop importing foreign goods and allow domestic products to compete fairly with international ones" -- he added

The National Chairman of the Arewa-Grassroots Farmers Alliance  of Nigeria , Comrade Dauda Musa Namadi noted that, despite the importance of local grain production, farmers in Nigeria face several challenges, as many of them in some parts of the country struggle with insecurity, which can disrupt production and affect yields.

While emphasizing on the the theme of the gathering "Stop importing grains, buy from our local farmers" pledged the Famers Alliance Commitment in  pursuing it  demands with aim to cushion the difficulties been faced by local farmers.

Some local Farmers that spokes during the meeting, Ashiru Tanko Makarfi and Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim among others, said Local farmers often struggle to access markets, making it difficult for them to sell their produce and compete with imported goods which according to them by providing support and patronage, the government can help to empower local farmers, enabling them to increase their productivity and competitiveness.

They called on the government to take cogent steps, in this direction to help  support local farmers, boost the economy, and ensure food security for the population.
