Tension Between Darika Scholars and Chairman of Kudan Local Government, Hon. Dauda Iliya

By Umar Idris,Zariya

Last week, a prominent Darika scholar, Sheikh Surajo Bomo Zariya, expressed concern over the lack of support from the Chairman of Kudan Local Government, Hon. Dauda Iliya, for organizing Mawlid celebrations and Qur’an recitation events in the area.

Sheikh Surajo stated that the people of Kudan are going through a difficult time due to the chairman's refusal to support such religious programs. He said whenever the chairman receives an invitation to these events, he reacts with complaints and anger—even though these gatherings help to strengthen people's faith and fear of God.

The scholar condemned this behavior and called on the chairman to remember that others have held the office before him. He urged him to be just and faithful to his people, especially regarding religious matters. Sheikh Surajo also criticized those around the chairman who, he claimed, are influencing him negatively and causing division in the community.

These strong remarks by Sheikh Surajo were made during a Mawlid event held in  Anguwar Mammada of Kudan Local Government this month.

When contacted by our reporter, the chairman Hon. Dauda Iliya denied the allegations, stating that the claims are untrue. He said he does not oppose religious activities and has attended and supported such events on several occasions.

However, investigations revealed that followers of the to the Darika order have started holding special prayers asking for change, while also expressing disapproval of the chairman and his associates.

Meanwhile, the Darika scholars praised the Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government, Hon. Abubakar Jamilu Albani Samaru, for his support of Islamic activities without discrimination or hostility.
