Zakat foundation presents scholarships to 12 ABU students
The Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation (ZSF) has called on members of the Muslim community to contribute more towards the fulfillment of zakat and sadaqat obligations, as it presented scholarships to 12 students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
At the event held on campus, the Foundation was represented by Mallam Oni Iysa (Operations Manager), Mallam Ismael Misbaudeen (Monitoring and Evaluation Officer), Engr. Abdulwahab A. Adebowale (Kaduna State Coordinator), and Mallam Oyewale Abdulwasi (Kaduna State Executive Member).
The representatives gave a brief overview of the Foundation, noting that since its establishment in 2000 by The Muslim Congress (TMC), ZSF disbursed more than ₦2.3 billion to at least 28,090 beneficiaries across 27 states of the federation.
Over the years, the Foundation has intervened in critical areas, including poverty alleviation, education support, healthcare, entrepreneurship, widow and orphan empowerment, food security, water and sanitation, as well as emergency relief.
They explained that in 2024 alone, ZSF distributed ₦385 million in zakat to nearly 2,897 individuals nationwide, demonstrating their continued commitment to uplifting the less privileged.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Director of the Counselling and Human Development Centre, Dr. S. M. Makarfi, urged the beneficiaries to ensure that the ₦50,000 scholarship given to each student was used strictly for its intended purpose as educational support.
In his closing remarks, the representative of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Mallam Abdulrazak Ayuba, commended the Foundation for its timely intervention.
He emphasized the importance of such support schemes in light of the economic hardships currently faced in the country and urged for sustained collaboration to expand the reach of these initiatives.
