Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation to screen students in ABU for scholarship awards
Members of the Executive Council of Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation have visited Ahmadu Bello University today, Tuesday, 19th August, 2025.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, was briefed on the purpose of their visit by the Director, Counseling and Human Development Centre, Ahmadu Bello University, Dr Sa'adatu Makarfi.
She stated that they were at the university for the screening of students from the 19 northern states for the 2024/2025 scholarships.
Dr Makarfi noted that the scholarship award started in 2012, and since then, it had been very consistent, except during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Foundation, Alhaji Munnir Jafaru, said they were at the university to interview prospective beneficiaries of the scholarship.
Alhaji Jafaru, who is the Madakin Zazzau, explained that the exercise would take a day or two to be completed.
He said it became a tradition that whenever they were at the university they would also come to pay homage to the Vice-Chancellor.
The Chairman thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for allowing them to use the campus for the exercise.
Responding, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, stated that using the university campus for the exercise was a certification of approval of what the university was doing.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, the Vice-Chancellor recalled that the Foundation was established to honor the legacies of the founder of the university.
Prof Ahmed appreciated the President Tinubu-led administration for creating the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) aimed at alleviating the financial problems of some students.
The Vice-Chancellor also said the university was honored to have the Madakin Zazzau leading the delegation.
Prof Ahmed expressed optimism that ABU students would benefit more from the scholarship.
He thanked the Chairman of the Foundation and other members of the Executive Council for always considering the university.
The Vice-Chancellor was assisted in receiving the guests by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi; and representative of the Bursar, Malam Garba Shehu.
Others were Ag. University Librarian, Dr Abubakar Abdullahi Mohammed; and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ibrahim Sani Kaita
