Emir Of Zazzau Commends AGRA Kaduna Consortium Project For Lunching Agroforestry And Woodlot Project

The emir of Zazzau Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli has commended AGRA Kaduna Consortium Project for its official Lunching Agroforestry and Woodlot project and assured them of his full support towards achieving the project.
The official Lunching was held at Government Secondary School Nasarawan Doya in Makarfi Local Government area.
Emir Bamalli who was represented by the District Head of Gubuchi, the Durumin Zazzau Dr.Bello Lawal said, the tree planting is a testimony of the AGRA Kaduna Consortium and NAERLS commitment toward saving our land and environment from the erosion and deforestation.
He said it is an opportunity for Gubuchi District to have such a giant projects as presently we are facing challenges of climate change.
According to him, Communities of Gubuchi district were very conscious of cutting down trees without replacing another one becouse of the important they attach of having trees in their environment.
The emir called on his traditional tittle holders to imbibe the culture of planting trees as well to enlighten their subjects on the environmental protection.
In his remarks the Vice Chancellor Ahmadu Bello University Zaria Prof. Ahmed Adamu has said unnecessary cutting down trees is one of the factors of Climate Change we are experiencing now.
Professor Adamu who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovations Prof. Sanusi Abdullahi Rafindadi, warned community to avoid cutting down trees without permission and replacement.
The Vice Chancellor reminded the Gubuchi community the important of planting trees in our environment to protect our environment.
According to him, trees are very important to our lives while tree planting go along way and in the hereafter.
Prof. Ahmed Adamu noted that tree is Life becouse they control our health and environments.
He expressed satisfaction with the massive turn out of traditional leaders, farmers, community stakeholders during the Lunching .
Also in his remarks the Executive Director National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS) Professor Sani Yusuf said, Agroforestry is the international integration of trees and shrubs into crop and animals system of farming, to create environmental, economic and social benefits.
Professor Yusuf said, it is a system of land use in which harvestable trees or shrubs are grown amongst or around crops in pasture lands, as a means of preserving or enhancing land productivity.
The Director, added that, the main aim and objectives of Agroforestry are to maintain or increase productivity of farming systems, diversify productivity , enhances Biodiversity, improve livelihood and promote sustainable land management by integrating crops and livestock.
In her address the Kaduna State AGRA Project Officer Dr. Esther Ibrahim advised people to always replace trees whenever they cut.
She said, as majority of household are using charcoal for cooking and roasting corn and other business but forgotten to replant another ones.
Dr. Esther Ibrahim also advised people whenever the cut down a tree they should replanted at least 10 trees.
She congratulate the community particularly the women whose turn out is encouraging.
Also speaking, the Principal Investigator, Professor Christogonus K. Daudu, explained that the campaign is designed to address the increasing impact of climate change, particularly in farming communities.
He noted that over 200,000 trees had already been planted in public institutions across the state including schools and hospitals, with more expected to follow.
He stated that the project promotes agroforestry by encouraging the planting of trees that offer both environmental and economic benefits.
