Collaboration, Information Sharing Can Effectively Dismantle Terrorist Networks--COAS

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General OO Oluyede said it is only through robust collaboration, information sharing and respect for the rule of law can effectively dismantle terrorist networks and address the root courses of extremism.
General Oluyede as the Special Guest of Honour stated this at the opening ceremony of Nigerian Army School of Legal Services 2025 Training Workshop held at Basawa Barracks.
The Chief of Army Staff was represented by Commandant Depot Nigerian Army, Maj. General Ahmadu Bello Mohammed said, the Nigerian Armed Forces, alongside other security agencies has been of the forefront of the light against terrorism, often making immense sacrifices to safeguard our country.
He however said, the complexity and adaptability of terrorist threats demand a holistic and collaborative Pproach.
According to him, it is underscores the critical need for collaboration in addressing one of the most pressing security challenges of our time.
General Oluyede the theme of the Workshop "The Menace of Terrorism: A Multi-Stakeholder Approach To Fighting Terrorism In Nigeria" is apt.
COAS said the Workshop has brought together mid-carerr and Junior officers from different formations and Units in the Nigerian Army.
He said, the business of the Workshop is to deliberate on terrorism which remains a significant threat to the peace, stability and development of Nigeria, with a view to achieve synergy among stateholders in fighting the danger.
In his Keynote address the Chief of Training Army, Maj. General AS.Ndalolo said, their Legal frameworks anchored in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
He was represented by the Commandant Nigerian Army School of Physical Training Lt. Col. G Bello said, Nigerian Armed Forces in collaboration with other security agencies has made a remarkable strides in combating terrorism.
General Ndalolo added that, they must recognized thst this battle is not for the Military alone, it is a challenge that demands the cillective efforts of all stakeholders, government, srcuroty agencies, the Judiciary, Civil Society and every citizen.
According to him the Nigerian Armed Forces as the pillar of our national security architecture has been at the forefront of counter terrorism operations often in cooperation with other security agencies and regional partners through mechanisms like the Multinational Joint Task Force.
He said, the Legal dimension of counter-terrorism is crucial for upholding the rule of Law while navigating the complexities of counter terrorism.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Commandant Army School of Legal Services, Lieutenant Colonel Henrietta Naanzee Longpoe said the Workshop is to enhance the capacity of participants on critical aspects of Law with a view to enableed them discharge their responsibilities effectively.
She said, terrorism remains one of the most daunting threats zo peace , national security and social cohesion in Nigeria.
The Commandant said, the fight against terrorism cannot be won by the Military alone, it demands a whole of society approach to combatting it.
According to her, terrorism has defied a universal definition , hence this this Workshop will attempt to explain what terrorism means with a view to understanding and prosecuting it.
