AGAN and AGRA PROJECT Organize Capacity-Building Workshop in Kudan LGA

The Agriculture Graduates Association of Nigeria (AGAN) in collaboration with the AGRA PROJECT organized an important awareness and knowledge-sharing workshop for farmers in Garu town, located in Kudan Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
The event was attended by media representatives, including our correspondent from Kaduna, and began with a visit to a rice demonstration farm alongside traditional and community leaders including chiefs and ward heads before officially opening the program with prayers.
Professor Adamu Yakubu, from the Department of Plant Science at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU), NAERLS, delivered a keynote presentation on the importance of planning and acquiring knowledge before venturing into farming.
“Farmers must seek expert advice before using seeds or traditional fertilizers to avoid poor crop yields,” said Professor Adamu.
He further warned against the use of animal manure, explaining that it could lead to weed infestations that harm crops. He advised farmers to always consult agricultural experts before using such inputs.
Professor Adamu also urged farmers to understand the nature of their farming — whether it's for commercial purposes or subsistence as this will help them properly plan and manage their farming activities.
On his part, Comrade Umar Abdullahi, the coordinator of rice farmer sensitization programs in Kaduna State, commended the efforts of AGAN and the AGRA PROJECT in empowering farmers with practical knowledge. He noted that the goal is to boost rice production, particularly in Kaduna and Niger States.
“Kaduna State accounts for 30% of the project's activities, while Niger State gets 70%, due to its larger scale of rice farming,” he explained.
He also encouraged farmers to collaborate closely with local representatives of the associations to receive timely advice and support.
Malam Abdul-Kareem, whose rice demonstration farm was used during the training, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the initiative, saying:
“There is no farm in Garu that matches mine in terms of success. I’m grateful to AGAN and AGRA for their consistent support and valuable knowledge.”
Malama Fatima Adamu Mu'azu, a participant from CPA Kwakwaren Manu in Sabon Gari LGA, also appreciated AGAN and AGRA PROJECT for their support, stating that:
“Farmers are learning a lot and making real progress.”
Malam Abdulrahman Usman, a representative of the Chief of Garu, offered his blessings for the success of the initiative and called on the community to support the program and its beneficiaries.
The event concluded peacefully and successfully, with calls for similar initiatives to be extended to other local government areas.
