The landmark event marked 65 years of Senegal’s independence from French colonial rule in 1960—a significant milestone for the nation.
The celebrations were held with great pageantry along the iconic Boulevard du Général de Gaulle, also known as Mamadou Dia Boulevard, where a vibrant display of military precision and cultural richness was on full display.
On behalf of President Tinubu, and the government and people of Nigeria, Vice President Kashim Shettima congratulated Senegal on its achievements over the past six and a half decades—a testament to the unity, resilience, and strength of its people.
He also commended the nation’s remarkable democratic journey, its peaceful transition of power, and its continued contributions to regional peace and progress.
Kashim Shettima was joined on this important mission by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Abubakar Bello; and the Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Oluwole Oke, among others.
