Court Orders Remand of Former Bauchi Accountant-General in Alleged Billions Fraud Case

The Bauchi State High Court has ordered the remand of the former Accountant-General of the state, Sa’idu Abubakar, in prison custody over allegations of multi-billion naira fraud.
Abubakar, who once served as the chief custodian of the state’s finances, was arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, and large-scale financial misconduct allegedly running into billions of naira.
The case stems from a petition filed by the Bauchi State Government in August 2025, accusing the former official and his accomplices of diverting public funds and breaching public trust. The petition triggered an investigation by the Nigeria Police, leading to his arraignment in court.
The presiding judge ordered that Abubakar be remanded pending further proceedings.
The case has been adjourned to September 22, 2025, for continuation of hearing.
Observers say the matter is shaping up to be one of Bauchi’s most high-profile corruption trials in recent years.
