Vice-Chancellor charges alumni to raise N5 billion for ABU Endowment Foundation in five years

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has charged the institution's alumni association to raise the sum of five billion Naira in five years for ABU Endowment Foundation.

Prof Ahmed gave the charge when the National President, Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association Worldwide, Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora, paid him a courtesy visit today, Friday, 30th May, 2025.

Prof Ahmed noted that without the alumni, whom he described as external stakeholders, his journey as Vice-Chancellor would be incomplete.

He said that alumni associations were the backbone of every institution, even though that had not been instituted in Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the university was facing enormous challenges, particularly electricity, hence, the need for its alumni association to rise up and save the situation.

Prof Ahmed expressed commitment to work with the association within the next five years.

He called on them to put up scholarship for students of the university in order to encourage them in their academic pursuits.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the National President and members of the association's executive council for their support to the university.

Earlier in his remarks, the National President, ABU Alumni Association Worldwide, Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora, expressed gratitude over the selection process that saw the emergence of Prof Adamu Ahmed as the Vice-Chancellor.

He said that occupying the office of the Vice-Chancellor was not an easy task, saying that the alumni would give their utmost support for the success of the new Vice-Chancellor.

Kontagora also asserted that universities all over the world only developed through the commitments of alumni associations.

ABU alumni association, according to him, had a consolidated action plan, which the association would package and send to the Vice-Chancellor.
