ABU's Building Department welcomes Prof Kabiru Bala back after serving as Vice-Chancellor
The Department of Building, Ahmadu Bello University, has organised a 'welcome back ceremony' in honour of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala.
The event took place at the Departmental Conference Room yesterday (Friday, 23rd May, 2025).
Prof Bala is a staff member of the Department. He was appointed ABU Vice-Chancellor in May, 2020, and his tenure came to an end on 30th April, 2025.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, described Prof Bala as a "hardworking individual who believes in the benefits one gets when he/she works hard."
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, the Vice-Chancellor also described Bala as one of the "most privileged people in the University".
He said Prof Bala had been 'one of the most impactful Director of Academic Planning in ABU's history."
The Vice-Chancellor maintained that Prof Bala's tenure had been very remarkable as over 20 policy documents were reviewed, describing such a feat as "very unprecedented in the history of the University."
He further said instilling personal discipline was one virtue of Prof Bala's administration, in addition to mentoring of many younger academics.
The Vice-Chancellor called on young academics to align their personal aspirations with those of the University for things to be better.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Head, Department of Building, Prof A D AbdulAzeez, stated that the immediate past Vice-Chancellor participated in most of the activities of the Department, while in office.
The Head of Department said the department missed Prof Bala for almost 15 years, since when he was appointed Director Academic Planning.
Prof AbdulAzeez also said during Bala's tenure, the Department had been uplifted in terms of capacity building, resulting in having the highest number of professors in the Faculty of Environmental Design.
He congratulated Prof Bala on successful completion of his tenure as ABU Vice-Chancellor and wished him well in all endeavors.
In his remarks, Prof Kabiru Bala expressed delight for "coming back home."
Prof Bala said he considered every office he held a learning process.
According to him, there was no alternative to hard work, because consistently hard work had continued to beat intelligence.
He said he would continue to appreciate the contributions of ABU alumni, who assisted the University in different ways during his tenure.
Prof Bala enjoined all Departments in the Faculty of Environmental Design to consider their respective facilities as a University property.
He thanked the Head of Department, staff and the department for organising the event in his honour.
Also speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Design, Prof Abdullahi Abubakar, lauded Prof Bala for doing a lot for the Faculty in terms of physical developments.
Represented by Prof Shehu Muhammad, the Dean disclosed that Prof Bala had assisted many staff of the Faculty in many ways and was open to assist everyone regardless of his or her Department and Faculty.
In their separate remarks, the Heads of the Department in the Faculty of Environmental Design said Prof Bala had done a lot in securing accreditations from their respective professional bodies and the National Universities Commission (NUC).
They also stated that Prof Bala had mentored and supported so many younger colleagues both in the Faculty and Departments, saying that he built a structure for the Department of Geomatics for the first time in the University.
They felicitated with him and wished him success in all endeavors.
Highpoints of the event were presentations of goodwill messages and plague to Prof Kabiru Bala.
