President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the renaming of the University of Maiduguri to Muhammadu Buhari University in honor of the late former President, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), GCFR.
The President made this announcement today during a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) convened in memory of the deceased, who passed away in London, United Kingdom.
President Tinubu stated that this is a special recognition to commemorate the contributions of the late Buhari to the development of education, security, and peace in Nigeria—particularly in the North-East, a region long plagued by insecurity.
He noted that the University of Maiduguri has played a vital role in educating thousands of students from across the country, and that renaming it to Muhammadu Buhari University will serve as a historic and lasting reminder to future generations of students and lecturers of the late leader’s patriotism and selfless service.
The session was marked by an atmosphere of grief and compassion, as members of the council reflected on Buhari’s good character, humility, and dedication to national service.
In conclusion, President Tinubu prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the late Muhammadu Buhari and for his acceptance into eternal rest, stating that Nigeria will never forget the legacy he left behind.
