Meet Prof. Kurawa, the VC Northwest University, kano
Born on August 28, 1970, in Kano Municipal, Nigeria, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa is a distinguished academic and administrator. He earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Inorganic Chemistry from Bayero University, Kano, and obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Bristol, UK.
Professor Kurawa began his academic career at Bayero University in 1993, ascending to the rank of Professor in 2015. He has held several key positions, including Head of the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry and Dean of the Faculty of Science. In 2016, he was appointed Rector of Kano State Polytechnic.
In October 2020, he became the Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano. Under his leadership, the university has expanded from five to nine faculties, with plans for additional faculties underway. His tenure is marked by infrastructural development, academic excellence, and community engagement.
Professor Kurawa is a member of several professional bodies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Chemical Society of Nigeria. He has also served on the Governing Board of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) since 2018.
