BY SANI ALIYU,Zaria

The Quadripartite Alliance for Voter Registration in Kano,  a Kano Voter Registration Mobilization Network. continued its grassroots mobilization for the ongoing pre-voter registration and awareness exercise.

Following an earlier engagement meeting with CSOs, during which the International Peace and Secure Society (IPSS) was selected to be part of the engagement with the Kano State Government through the Committee on Voter Awareness and Mobilization, chaired by Hon. Commissioner Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya under the directive of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State, the Alliance reaffirmed its commitment to the cause.

To respond effectively to the call of the Committee, the International peace and secure society (IPSS) engaged its long standing Civil Society partners in developmental work, who for decades have maintained extensive grassroots networks across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State, reaching hundreds of thousands of direct beneficiaries through various programs and activities.

Building on this foundation, the Alliance convened a strategic meeting with the leadership of tricycle riders in Kano.

The session brought together executives and unit leaders of the Tricycle Owners and Riders Association from all 44 LGAs. During the meeting, tricycle leaders were encouraged to ensure that members who have not registered or who lost their voter cards, complete the online pre-voter registration while our Volunteers will be available complementing the efforts of government in supporting the citizens of kano state for the Exercise.

They were further urged to mobilize their families, friends, and neighbors, and to nominate at least one representative from each unit across the 44 LGAs to join the Alliance’s Local Government Coordinators, Ward, and Polling Unit Volunteers in the exercise.

Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf the Director General of International Peace and Secure Society (IPSS) and Comrade Dr. Iliayasu Suleiman Dawakin Tofa the Executive Director Light House Self Reliance Initiative from the Quadripartite Alliance highlight the importance of voter registration as a civic responsibility and as a foundation for credible elections.

They emphasized the need for mass participation, especially at the grassroots level.

The tricycle leaders unanimously appreciate the recognition to use their extensive network of units in the associations across all 44 LGAs to support the voter registration exercise, working hand in hand with the Alliance’s volunteers.

This engagement is expected to significantly boost awareness, accessibility, and turnout across Kano State, given the strong grassroots reach of tricycle operators.

They reaffirmed their readiness for the engagement with the Quadripartite Alliance to make voter registration a truly people driven exercise, ensuring that no eligible citizen is left behind Insha Allah.

This development forms part of the Alliance’s three week action plan to sensitize the public and drive pre-voter registration across all 44 LGAs, 484 wards, and over 11,000 polling units in Kano State.

The Quadripartite Alliance emphasized that voter registration is the first step toward strengthening democracy, amplifying citizens’ voices, and ensuring credible elections.

Through this engagement with tricycle riders and other Wilder network we engaged in the state, the campaign will now reach households, streets, and neighborhoods across the state directly complementing government efforts.
